The foundation of this message is found in Joshua 1. Where God gives Joshua specific instructions to follow in order to see the deliverance he has promised. However, the instructions of God came seem contradistinctive to human reasoning. The scriptures declare that His ways are not our ways and His thoughts are not our thoughts. So then obedience not only requires the willingness to obey but also the will to believe in the instructor even when the instructions are contrary to reason.
